I’ve been reading, watching, and listening to the news in the past few weeks and, while I have been impressed with the actions taken by our Canadian political and medical leaders, I’ve also noted the insanity and blatant stupidity shown by many in society around the world.
There are those among politicians, particularly to the south of us, who still use this tragedy to fulfil a political agenda or to exact revenge upon those with whom they don’t agree. Members of the public have disregarded the directive to stay home and apart from one another. COVID-19 is spreading in large part because people will not see or are too self-indulgent to care. Their pleasure means more to them than the health and survival of the others around them.
These actions have led me to believe that we can never underestimate the stupidity of the general public.
My observations, however, have also shown the greatness that people in our country can demonstrate. They have helped others, they have given of their time and goods. Our health-care workers are risking their lives to diligently care for those of us who become ill. As Canadians, we have so much to be proud of during this time.
Let’s not give up our accomplishments as a country by failing to follow the protocols that have been put in place. We need to help one another. Unless it is absolutely necessary, please stay at home and away from others. If you need to go out, remain apart from others and wash your hands thoroughly and frequently. The directions we’ve been given by health professionals are meant to help us. We should follow them and prove once again how great Canada and Canadians truly are.
